RE: SEASON WELCOMING LETTER – 2024/25 SEASON
Dear DCC members, parents, and cricket enthusiasts,
I hope this letter finds you in excellent health and high spirits. As the Chairperson of Durbanville Cricket Club, it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to yet another exciting cricket season. If we look back at the success of last season, the bar has been set high, but I have confidence in DCC members to step up and make this season even a more fruitful one.
Durbanville Cricket Club is not just a team; we are a family bound by a common love for the game and we bring communities together. Whether you are a player, a supporter, a parent, or a sponsor, you are an integral part of this extended cricketing family, and we cherish your presence.
We take immense pride in being the premier cricket club in the Western Cape, with a record amount of cricket played on our grounds. However, achieving this level of greatness requires the continuous support and partnership of organizations that share our passion for the sport and our ambition for excellence.
We are thrilled to have Decofurn as one of our esteemed partners. Their unwavering commitment and support have played an integral role in our continued success. Decofurn understands the importance of investing in local sports and community development, and we are grateful for their renewed support for the upcoming season.
As we embark on this new season, I want to emphasize the importance of professionalism and dedication in all aspects of our club. It is crucial that we conduct ourselves with the utmost integrity and respect towards our opponents, teammates, and supporters. Our success as a team not only rests on our skills and performance but also on our ability to maintain a positive and sportsmanlike attitude at all times.
I encourage all players to participate actively in team practices, meetings, and events, as it is through collective efforts that we can achieve our goals. I also encourage open communication amongst the team members, coaches, and management, as this will help us identify areas of improvement and work towards them efficiently.
Exciting news for the 2024/25 season.
Durbanville Cricket club T10 tournament to commence on 20 September 2024. Based on the success of the inaugural tournament hosted in March this year, we have managed to come to an agreement with the UK based consortium to continue and even expand this tournament for a minimum of 5 years. This is extremely exciting and will be crucial to taking DCC up a level in terms of our facilities and quality of our members cricketing skills. This event is streamed to three other countries and gives our youngsters the opportunity to see how our premier league sides perform in this high impact format of the game.
We are also excited to announce that Sean Ackermann has been appointed as the new first team coach taking over from Manny Senger that had a sensational period with the first team and have set the standard for other coaches to follow. Sean is and esteemed coach in his own right winning the Reserve A league two years in a row. DCC backs you Sean, we have all the confidence in you to come through with flying colors. Good luck Sean.
With Sean stepping up to the important role of first team coach, he had to hand over the baton to Paddy Inglis to run the junior program until a more permanent solution can be identified and trained for the role. Further correspondence in this regard will be communicated by Sean and Paddy on all the junior groups.
Introduction of Junior Girls' Cricket: We are thrilled to announce the introduction of a dedicated junior girls' cricket program. This initiative will be hosted alongside the boys' training on Fridays, with the girls training in a separate group. This will create a supportive platform for junior girls to develop their cricketing skills in an environment tailored to their needs.
As we step onto the field, we do so not just as players but as ambassadors of the sport, carrying the legacy of our club forward. Let us play hard but always with sportsmanship and respect for our opponents. Let us forge new friendships and strengthen the bonds that make our club special.

These adjustments are essential for the continued operation and sustainability of our establishment. Prices will be adjusted at the start of the cricket season.

DCC executive committee is diligently working towards improving the financial sustainability of the club as a whole. We understand that tough decisions may need to be made, and we appreciate your understanding and continued support throughout this process.
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to all our sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who have continued to show their unwavering support for Durbanville Cricket Club. Your contributions are instrumental in our endeavors, and we are grateful for your continued belief in our vision.
I wish everyone a successful and memorable season ahead. Let us strive for excellence both on and off the field, and together, let us make Durbanville Cricket Club a beacon of sporting excellence and community engagement.

DCC Junior Chair
Dear All Cricket Fanatics and Parents
The good news is that at this moment in time we are allowed to practice and play friendly matches! It is going to be so good to hear the sounds of happy children and cheering mums and dads again. And how we join our loved ones in their disappointment and shed a supportive tear too when things have not quite gone their way! Below is what to expect at DCC this coming term.
- PRACTICE NETS AVAILABILITY
These are available for use by DCC Members only
Strict adherence to COCT, CSA, WPCA and DCC Covid processes. To make each entry easy you can complete an online Covid register here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdMh97JH5iE1-Y4KDbaFVSghnHx7KAo11f6iyq7WbfXapCsTQ/viewform
Nets are to be booked in advance. Please use the online net booking system on the DCC Website here https://www.durbanvillecricket.co.za/venue-hire-net-booking
- PRACTICE TIMES
Mini Cricket U5 – U7 at DCC
The good news - a pilot programme is to be introduced for U5 - U7 starting on Friday 19 February 2021. It is a programme that was developed in the UK and is currently enjoying success at Wynberg Boys Junior School. Please assist DCC to get this off the ground and share the word. If more information is required please see here.
Time 17h15 for 17h30 – 19h00.
Transition Group u 8 – U9 at DCC
Monday and Wednesday starting 17 Feb 2021. Time 16h00 - 18h00. This is match simulation practice.
Friday starting 19 February 2021. Time 17h15 for 17h30 - 19h00. This is a skills practice.
U10 - U13 Age Groups at DCC
Friday starting 19 February 2021. Time 17h15 for 17h30 – 19h00
- COACHING
Each age group has been allocated a lead coach. The purpose is to ensure feedback from matches and practices are fed through to the lead coach via the managers and co-ordinators to be incorporated in the practice sessions.
The co-ordinators have access to an overall coaching objective for this term. The objective covers the major facets of the game and to be incorporated into the weekly practices. The lead coaches and coordinators will individualise for each age group.
Additional coaches will be allocated to each age group on Fridays to assist.
Let’s not forget DCC winter nets for the U10 – U13 that start in the 2nd term until June. The last winter nets were very well attended.
- FRIENDLIES
External" friendlies - these will be considered and availability checked via your co-ordinator. Most of the matches will be on an away basis. If fields are available a Home match will be considered.
Internal friendlies -
Depending on field availability these will be held on weekends with additional midweek games. The idea behind the midweek game is to allow players to play and be outside especially for those whose schools are not allowing term 1 sport.
DCC is looking at scheduling more games on Saturday evening's after the seniors match.
There will be a variety of match types to keep it interesting.
Midweek internal games are to be introduced and to take place before the seniors Nitebash on a Wednesday or Thursday. These will be "short" games - T16, 6 a side etc.
Equal strength teams will be chosen and where necessary include mixed ages. The idea is to encourage the players to push themselves beyond their comfort zone and still be able to succeed.
Winning is not the key driver. Play to win is encouraged for the sake of development i.e. being in a challenging situation. The prime focus however is participation. Please see the DCC website for guidelines https://www.durbanvillecricket.co.za/junior/objectives
Internal Nitebash – this will be held during term 1 and term 4. Term 1 dates are finalized as follows:
U12/13 - 26 Feb 2021
U10/U11 - 5 March 2021
- U13 VALEDICTORY MATCH
is scheduled for 10 December 2021.
- PARENTS COACHES and MANAGERS
Parent involvement in assisting with coaching, management within the guidelines of our policies and objectives is vital and of crucial importance for our continued development and growth as a Club. Parents wishing to become involved in any way (eg. umpires, scorers, coaching) are welcome to e-mail me in this regard. It certainly is an enriching experience working with our youth.
7. REGISTRATION
To those who have already registered a big thank you.
Considering the environment we currently find ourselves in, this is a very sensitive and difficult subject to approach.
DCC Juniors can not achieve its goals and objectives as set out above and contribute to the upkeep of the nets and fields, staff wages, coaching etc. if subscriptions are not paid. Please speak to your coordinator to rather make an arrangement and not have our child participating.
For those who do not register unfortunately DCC will not be able to select your child for matches or Nitebash and have them enjoy the coaching during the week. To save DCC any embarrassment please register and chat to your coordinator.
Registration form can be found here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tSjZ1vtrIjgMjLTLPuNHsvi0Xk6r4GsQ/view
Please forward a copy of your registration form and POP to Lizelle info.durbanvillecricket@gmail.com. You ccan also hand them to Lizelle on Fridays at DCC practice night.
Please refer to the Registration Form for the fees.
IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF DCC CLOTHING YOU CAN PURCHASE THESE ON FRIDAYS AT DCC.
THE DCC CRICKET EQUIPMENT SHOP IS AVAILABLE. CONTACT JACO PIENAAR 072 509 2359 or email jaco@cricketwarehouse.co.za for sales.
Thank-you all for your loyal support and for giving your child the opportunity to be part of our busy Club.
See you on the cricket fields

NEWSLETTER #1 - JANUARY 2021
Dear Parents
Welcome to 2021. Covid19 has caused much havoc and pain and still continues to so. My condolences to you and your families if you have experienced the loss of loved ones and friends due to Covid19. It is a very difficult time for many.
DCC with sadness offers condolences to Charles Clacher and family with the passing of his wife 13 Jan 2021. Charles ran the DCC Junior Section (prior to Arno) and his influence is still present before accepting a post at WPCA.
A big thank you to Arno for Skippering the ship these past 8 years! It will be a tuff ask to fill these shoes. Arno we wish you well for your next projects and I appreciate it you will still only be a call a way to assist us with your vast experience, knowledge and passion for the game you have built up over the years.
We wish the U13’s from last year all the best as you move from the junior to the youth/scholar ranks. Also a big thank you to Henry who coordinated this group. Henry, I appreciated your welcome, advice and willingness to share your spreadsheets and thoughts and I am pleased you will still be around at DCC!
WHAT IS HAPPENING?
SEASON START
The season and cricket related activities cannot start before 01 Feb 2021 is the information DCC received 13 Jan 2021 from WPCA. WPCA council meeting will be held on 18 Jan 2021 to discuss this further.
DCC Committee met 13 Jan and it was decided to continue with planning for the season ahead.
As soon as we have more clarity regarding season start dates Coaching schedules will be shared with you as well as registration details etc.
PLEASE NOTE the DCC Fields and Practice nets are still closed for use. This is a directive from WPCA.
WICKET-KEEPERS
A wicket-keepers skills practice is to be introduced every Friday for all age group wicket-keepers. The session is to be 30 – 40 minutes thereafter they will return to their age group practice. Coach Bob Homani will be running these skills sessions and I remember watching Bob keep wicket and he left a positive impression on me. I encourage our wicket-keepers to attend.
MINI CRICKET FOR u5 to u6’s
We would like to see this group of future stars grow. We will announce commencement and programme soonest.
INTERNAL NITEBASH
Scheduled for the 1st Term 2021. These are fun evenings for our players and something they all look forward too! As soon as we receive WPCA direction w.r.t season start date we will immediately begin planning these events.

Parents wishing to become involved in any way (eg. umpires, scorers, coaching) are welcome to e-mail me in this regard. It certainly is an enriching experience working with our youth!
SPONSORS and DONORS
The COCT has very limited available funds available to assist Clubs and to meet expenses, especially during this Covid pandemic and it is apparent that the Club itself needs to be pro-active and explore all avenues to obtain funding for necessary improvements etc. We therefore appeal to all individuals and associated/affiliated companies and/or businesses to try and assist where possible with sponsorship/donations/fundraising proposals. Please e-mail me directly with any possibilities for this. We would like to thank Leapfrog Durbanville for their continued support, and we again attach the details of their sponsorship together with their latest newsletter. Please support our Sponsor in any of your property dealings if possible, since Leapfrog have committed a residual sponsorship benefit for the Club in any income generated by them via the Club!
